Create Your Own Application To Android News (Reader Tutorial)

Thank you to Brett Prior (bprior22 Twitter user name) to submit this tutorial reader! We appreciate the hard work and dedication it takes to write a long article. Enjoy!

I was very disappointed by the lack of news reader applications on the Android Market. Yes, I know there NubiNews (which is anyway with the cow?) And the new Handmark Express, but I left unsatisfied with their lack of customization. NubiNews simply gives you a one stop shop for a number of sources of information for you to delve into darkness. Frankly, the application gives me a headache. I am looking for a news aggregator that can give me solid information without digging cash concise relentless.

I decided to take matters into their own hands instead of waiting for a developer to come up with this new application "perfect." A site that people are familiar with Android's "Google News". I've always been a fan of using the Google news site, even before jumping into the mobile platform Android. Brief information is given to the appropriate customization and the ability to use Google to acquire a wide range of news sources.

I often forget how much the Android open platform for customization. I used the home screen shortcut to my other favorite applications before and I thought I could do the same with one of my favorite sites for new phones. So here's what I did, and what you can do to create (Note: I will refer to this as an "application" throughout the tutorial, though not necessarily a real application) "in the Google News. ".

Installation instructions:

Android on your phone, open your browser and select "News" tab at the top (if you have a second home screen to your browser, simply visit www.google.com / news)

Create a bookmark to this page (Menu> Favorites> Add)

Rename Bookmark "News"
Go to the main screen and long press on an open area

Select> Shortcuts> Favorites> then "News" bookmark you just created

Now you should have a "News" icon created on the main screen (like a newspaper should be illustrated here, the bottom right of the screen).

Customization instructions:

Now you can have fun with the customization. Click on "News" icon and will launch directly to Google News. Scroll to the bottom and make sure you are logged into your Google account.

You can add items of interest to you, there is a part of the class standard Google News. Just select "Add section." It allows you to add a chapter or to add a custom section.

This gives you the ability to add news content specifically for the city, state or zip code. Another option Add a custom section is definitely my favorite feature. Here you can add keword (or words), and Google aggregate information about that particular word (or words). So if you want to aggregate news for Android, this will give you the opportunity to add your department, and Google will bring you an almost endless list of items.
Next, select "Custom Edition", and you can move through the various news categories up or down depending on your level. You can also "hide" classes, it seems completely irrelevant to your liking. (Note: First page is always at the top by default, and it seems that you can not change this setting).

After completing the customization, you can now enjoy your newly created News "app". I loved going through all the setup process, and that allowed me to feel the full autonomy of the "creation" of the application. I used to just looking for a smooth download and use. It is a different format and allows a user's normal to feel empowered to Android on using your device. There are, however, some drawbacks to the "application Google News."

It is the mobile web, and having to load each time you start approx. This was not a problem for me when I have the best phone on the best network (Droid, Verizon). I have 11 new sections and lateral loads in literally seconds to launch.

The news is not added in real time order or chronological order. In an instant society, which thrive in the most current. This proves without doubt an important caveat for me, but after using the "app" for a few days I learned to look beyond the limitation.
So if you're trying to create your own personalized news app for the information most relevant to you, try this method. Tell us what you think about this "Google News App" and how it has worked for you! Do you want this more than news published Android applications are currently available in the Android Market?
